Membership Requirements
What do you mean requirements? As of the 2004-2005 school year, all NHS members are required to earn a number of points in order to remain eligible for membership. We feel that this system is easier to keep track of than the old practice of members having to log every hour of volunteering. Points can be earned by attending monthly meetings, participating in group projects such as the Halloween Party and NHS Dance, and by completing community service projects on your own. A proof-of-volunteering form can be downloaded from the Volunteering page. Please submit forms to Vice President Megan Morris. The new Point System is outlined below.

2005-2006 Point Requirement Guidelines
• 8 points are required per semester.
• These points may be earned however you choose.
• Meetings are worth 1 point each. (There are 3 or 4 each Semester. 3 count toward your points.) You should try to attend meetings, or you may miss important information.
• The Halloween Party and NHS Dance are worth 1 point each. (1 each semester)
• Each outside volunteering activity is worth 1 point.
• Only volunteering activities in which any student has an equal opportunity of participating can be counted toward points (i.e. no Blood Drive because one must be of a minimum age).
• Student Assembly meetings and other club meetings do not count toward points (see above), unless they directly involve a volunteering activity.
• If you attend all meetings and the group activity each semester, you will only need to do one outside volunteering activity. (See Volunteering page for proof-of-volunteering form.)
• If you do not meet the point requirement, you will not be allowed to wear an NHS stole upon graduation (Seniors). For Juniors, you will not be eligible for membership your Senior year.
• There is a one semester probationary
period for all members.

NHS Membership Rules
• To be eligible for membership in the NHS, students must maintain a 3.4 GPA and have completed at least two (2) courses considered Honors, Advanced, AP, or III-level the year prior to application.
• For example, a Sophomore who took one Honors class his Freshman year and is currently taking one AP class is not eligible. Conversely, a Sophomore who took 2 Honors classes his Freshman year is eligible.
• The handbook (pg. 27) incorrectly states that 4 Honors, Advanced, AP, or III-level classes are required for membership. All other information is correct.
• Application for new members takes place during the third marking period.
